Reporting directly to the General Manager, Hortus is seeking a Laboratory Technician to be responsible for the technical performance and efficient and effective operation of the Bundaberg laboratory in accordance with all relevant rules and regulations.
KEY RESULT AREA
| Checking in mail and couriers in incoming sample record, entering incoming samples in lab books | |
| Preparing samples and reagents, performing lab assays | |
| Preparing samples for extraction when required | |
| Prepare and dilute lab samples in preparation for analysis (soil, sap, water, QS, etc) | |
| Preparation of reagents (buffers, extracts) and standards as required | |
| Perform assays on AAS for sap, soil, QS and water samples | |
| Sap, soil, water analysis using spectrophotometer for P, B, S and Si tests | |
| Maintenance of spectrophotometer | |
| Operation of DIM for sap, soil, QS and water samples | |
| Operation pH and EC meter for sap, soil, QS and water samples | |
| Conversion of results using regression analysis | |
| Organic carbon preparation and analysis | |
| NH4-N in soil and QS with steam distillation | |
| Preparation and analysis of potting mixes and growing media |
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
| Experience in laboratory procedures | |
| Certificate 111in Laboratory Skills |

| Ability to work effectively with other team members | |
